Thank you for supporting Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp and Dave through
the Marathon of Giving. It was an amazing day for running with the masses in Chicago.

45,000 people were signed up to run the Chicago marathon this year.
However, Chicago had very unseasonably hot weather the days before and the
day of the marathon. High temperatures during the race were
expected to reach the upper 80s.
Because of that, 10,000 runners did not even show up for the start.
Dave started at the back of the pack and was doing very well.
However, he did notice that the temperature was climbing.

After catching up with the 4 hour 15 minute group (thats
the expected length of time for Dave to run the marathon),
the police officers on the route stated that the race had been cancelled.
Dave had reached mile 23 so he walked the last 3 miles
and then ran across the finish line.
At the finish they were saying that the heat index was over 100 degrees.
Sadly, 315 people were taken to the hospital and 1 person died.
It was a crazy day and a crazy marathon!!!

Dave finished. That is biggest feat of all.
10,000 people were bussed off the course behind
Dave when the race was canceled and not allowed to finish at all.
25,493 people actually finished the race.
Dave placed 15,422 with a finish time was 5:10:03.
So, of those that finished, Dave was ahead of 10,071 people.
Dave was ahead of another 10,000 (the ones bussed off the course) when the race was cancelled.
And he was bold enough to show up for the start
in front of another 10,000 that didnt show.

Concerning the Marathon of Giving, Dave would like to work with the figure of 20,071 -- that is the number
of people that he was actually ahead of on the course.
But Dave would rejoice if you went with the 30,071 which includes
those on the course and the no shows.
Remember, the Marathon of Giving is all for a great cause,
the ministries of Rainbow Trail.
Know that your gift will make a tremendous difference in the lives of literally thousands of kids!
So give and give generously!

You may download a support form here if you would still like to support camp through Dave's efforts.

Please return completed forms with money to the Canon City office.

Don’t forget Rainbow Trail’s Grace Race in support of ELCA World Hunger that happened on October 14, 2007 around Sloan’'s Lake in Denver.  This was RTLC's first annual 5K Run/Walk in support of world hunger
